The CE mark and the European Directives
Since Jan. Ist, 1996 European Union Authorities have required the CE mark to appear
on certain categories of products sold in Europe. Basically, all electrical or electronic products which will be
sold directly to the consumer require the mark. Jerome Industries can assist your company by - supplying a CE mark
on your power source.
At the present time the two European Directives which affect our products are the Low Voltage Directive and the
EMC Directive.
The Low Voltage Directive is an electrical safety compliance law, which specifies products must meet applicable
safety standards. The Low Voltage Directive became effective Jan Ist, 1995 as a new approach directive, adding
the CE mark was optional. Starting Jan. 1st 1997 the CE mark is mandatory. Jerome Industries accredited safety
compliance lab can verify your power source to the Low Voltage Directive. (We can also work directly with outside
labs to obtain verification.) Most of the international power sources shown in this catalog have been qualified
already. Qualified products may bear the CE mark.
The EMC Directive is a law which specifies Electro-Magnetic compatibility
environment of various types of electrical products. The EMC Directive
became effective on Jan. Ist, 1996 and use of the CE mark became mandatory.
This directive applies only to Jerome Industries products which contain
switchmode circuitry, other types of products are exempted. The vast
majority of the switchmode product we make has been evaluated by an
outside lab to the emissions and immunity requirements of the EMC directive.
Additionally we test each prototype which leaves our factory for EMC
compliance to the CISPR 22 and FCC Class B conducted and radiated specifications,
thus insuring complete customer confidence in passing system EMC test
requirements. If your system needs additional AC line immunity, we can
provide custom remedies tailored to your system.
